Knit Goods Made from Alpaca.

Our yarn is made from natural fiber that starts in pastures on small fiber farms across the USA. We process the fiber every step of the way – from washing the raw fiber to carding to pin-drafting to spinning to dyeing right at our small cottage mill in Colfax, North Dakota.

The work begins well before the raw fiber gets to the mill. We buy fiber from small farms at prices that are fair to the producer. While this adds to the cost of our yarn, we think it’s worth it. To know that the fiber came from animals that were treated well and, in many cases, are like members of the producer’s family is important to us. In fact, for some batches we even include the names of the animals the fiber came from. It’s our way of thanking them and acknowledging that this fiber came from names not numbers.

Sure, you can buy cheaper yarn and knit goods that are imported from far flung corners of the world. But, yarn is more than just fiber spun together to make a string. Every skein we create tells the story of people who dared to raise fiber animals in the face of increasing global competition – a return to the way things used to be despite the odds. That’s a story worth telling.

Be good and knit well,
